General Tips
- When cooking food it is important to keep your work area clean and sanitized. I am always wiping down my counter with vinegar while my pot is on the flame.
- While cooking it is best practice to wash hands frequently with soap to prevent any bacteria such as salmonella from contaminating food (especially when preparing raw chicken).
- By keeping your work space organised you are able to move more efficiently and avoid breakages in the kitchen. For instance the dish rack was designed to be packed a certain way to allow the dishes to dry. I absolutely hate when people just throw dishes in all willy-nilly. It is very frustrating to try to retrieve a plate or bowl when it is in this condition. I have actually set up a separate table to place larger dishes and containers to dry. This is my designated "drying table".
- While cooking, as much as possible try mutli-tasking so you accomplish more in a shorter time frame. For instance do not leave the dishes in the sink to pile up like this below
For those of us who do not have dish washers try washing up while the pot is on the flame so that when your food is finished the sink looks like this below. This way you can relax and enjoy your meal without having to worry about a mountain of dishes to wash in the sink.
I have a bit of OCD when it comes to keeping my cooking work space clean and organised but it definitely works in my favour!
